Treated Wood Fence Carrollton TX

WHAT IS PRESSURE TREATED WOOD
Pressure-treated wood is wood that has been chemically treated to resist rot, decay and insects. The treatment process involves placing the wood in a pressurized chamber where it is exposed to a preservative solution. The most common preservatives used are a combination of chemicals called chromated copper arsenate (CCA) and ammoniacal copper quat (ACQ). The chemicals are forced deep into the wood fibers, providing long-term protection against rot, decay, and insect infestation. Pressure-treated wood is commonly used for decks, fences, and other outdoor structures because it is resistant to the elements and provides a long-lasting, durable option. We believe one of the best options available for the structure or framing of a fence is pressure treated pine. But more specifically KDAT or kiln dried after treatment lumber.

WHO SHOULD CONSIDER A PRESSURE TREATED WOOD FENCE
A pressure-treated wood fence is a good option for those who are looking for a durable and long-lasting fence that is resistant to rot, decay, and insect infestation. It's particularly suitable for people who live in areas with high humidity, heavy rainfall, or termite infestations, as the chemical treatment helps to protect the wood from these elements. It is also an affordable option compared to other materials such as cedar or redwood. Additionally, pressure-treated wood is a good option for people who are looking for a more natural look, as it can be stained or painted to match the aesthetic of their property. It's also suitable for people who are looking to install a fence in a short amount of time as it is readily available in most lumber yards and home improvement stores. However, it is important to keep in mind that the chemicals used in the treatment process can be toxic, so it's recommended to wear gloves and mask when handling and to avoid using it for indoor or food contact use.

CEDAR FENCE VS TREATED PINE FENCE
A pressure-treated wood fence and a cedar fence are similar in that they are both used for outdoor fencing and are durable options. However, there are some key differences between the two materials. Cedar is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insects, whereas pressure-treated wood is chemically treated to resist these elements. Cedar has a natural reddish-brown color that weathers to a silvery gray, giving it a unique aesthetic appeal. Pressure-treated wood is typically a lighter color and may not have the same natural aesthetic as cedar. Cedar is generally more expensive than pressure-treated wood, but it is also a more durable and long-lasting option. Pressure-treated wood is more affordable and readily available, but it requires more maintenance to prevent rot and decay.

PROPER CARE AND MAINTENANCE FOR A PRESSURE TREATED WOOD FENCE

Maintaining and caring for a pressure-treated wood fence is relatively simple. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Regular cleaning: Keep your fence clean by removing dirt, grime, and debris. Use a mild detergent and a soft-bristled brush to scrub the wood.
  • Staining or painting: Consider staining or painting your fence to protect it from the elements and to give it a fresh look. Be sure to use a high-quality, exterior-grade stain or paint.
  • Sealing the ends: Seal the ends of the boards to prevent warping and cracking.
  • Inspecting for damage: Regularly inspect your fence for signs of damage such as rotting, warping, or insect infestation. If you notice any issues, address them as soon as possible to prevent them from getting worse.
  • Repairs: Make repairs as needed. If a board is rotting or warping, replace it as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
  • Avoiding contact with soil: Keep soil and mulch away from the base of the fence to prevent rot and decay.
